Carports

Did you ever get into your car on a hot summer day in Florida and feel like a pizza being slipped into an oven? Eight households at Gainesville Cohousing are hoping to avoid that fate, thanks to the installation of carports in the community’s parking lot. The carport structure is a pre-engineered kit that was adapted for us from Barn Kits of America. The columns are 8×8 pressure treated wood set in concrete, the beams and trusses are steel, the roof framing is 2×6 wood and the roof is galvanized steel. They will also be equipped with outlets that will, among other things, power lights with motion detectors and allow electric cars to be recharged.
